There’s no doubt that, at least once, you’ve looked at your phone only to see that the time is 11:11 and made a wish. Other times, you’re about to treat yourself with some online shopping, only to find your shopping cart equating to $33.33. And sometimes, these serendipitous number arrangements hit you every day, more than once a day. Enough to make you wonder, are they trying to tell me something?
Some may put it down to childhood naivety or superstition, but there’s a reason why wishes are made at the serendipitous time.
Introducing ‘Angel Numbers’.
If you’ve ever felt like numbers are literally following you and laughed off the ‘silly’ thought, then know you’re not alone (and not over-paranoid). It’s likely that you’re seeing your very own angel numbers, an astrological phenomenon that believes guidance can be found from certain numbers that the universe is clearly making obvious to you.

Making the rounds on the internet, 2025 may be the year that angel numbers get their time in the spotlight. The concept may not be new, but with celebrities like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Kylie Jenner both using angel emojis after the births of their second children on the second day or the second month of this year (2/2/22), the world has started listening to the power that angel numbers hold.
But what do angel numbers mean, and how can you find your own? ELLE Australia spoke with astrologer Janelle Palibrk to get the down-low on which numerical signs we should be looking for.
What Are Angel Numbers?
From numerology, angel numbers are simply number sequences—typically three or four numbers—that repeat in nature. While they appear in the most ordinary of places, the digits usually command our attention due to the chance of discovering them.
“Angel numbers are a sequence of numbers that are shown to you to convey a divine message. […] [They] stem from numerology, a universal language of numbers, a study of numbers in your life,” Palibrk told ELLE.
But there’s a reason why our attention is drawn to them. These numbers are believed to be messages from the spiritual universe to provide us with wisdom, direction and insight, Palibrk says.
“You’ll see them on your watch, computer screen, speedometer, phone numbers, anything that can display a group of numbers you’ll find them.”

“Have you ever looked at your phone multiple times in one day or a week to see the exact same numbers staring back at you?,” she asks.
“You’ll most likely see 11:11 as they are the most popular angel numbers and are reminding you to trust your intuition and listen to your heart.”
For some, they believe that the numbers are sent to them by guardian angels, loved ones who have passed, spirits or simply a higher being—and they can perform some kind of fortune-telling. No, they won’t tell you how to land your dream job, but what they will do is offer guidance to inspire how you consider decisions and pathways to take in life.
Why Are Angel Numbers So Special?
Well, they’re considered some form of divine intervention. Of course, finding the same repetition of numbers can be down to coincidence, but where’s the fun in that? After all, perhaps the concept of coincidences is a way to logically justify divine intervention.
For angel numbers, Palibrk says that they serve as “divine guidance” or a “symbol of where your life is headed or heading”.
“Many use angel numbers to show they are on the right track or a symbol of a higher purpose, or higher self,” she explains, adding, “some even take angel numbers as messages from the spirit world if they have loved ones who have passed”.
“Once you open your mind to the gifts of numerology you’ll find angel numbers in the most unlikely of places.”
Where Can You Find Angel Numbers?
There’s a tendency in us all to go looking for positive markers that may be the sign we’ve been looking for. But when it comes to finding angel numbers, there’s no point in purposefully searching for them. These signs need to find you, whether that be from the perplexing to the mundane. Like the time on the clock, a price tag at a store, or even the number of likes on your most recent Instagram post.
The more you notice the same numbers repeated throughout your life, the better. “Angel numbers can be found anywhere that have a number system,” Palibrk explains. “From postal addresses to phone numbers, you’ll see it mostly on your phone when checking the time.”
