  • In 2025 both lunar eclipses and solar eclipses are moving through different star signs
  • We will see a switch from eclipses in Aries and Libra, which we have experienced since 2023, to eclipses in Pisces and Virgo
  • Astrologically, eclipses offer an opportunity to streamline both emotionally and materially; however, the emotional tenor of the eclipses and the areas of life most affected will vary depending on the sign in which they occur.

In 2025, our roster of lunar and solar eclipses will move through a new set of star signs. Since April 2023, each lunar and solar eclipse has occurred in either Aries or Libra, which sit opposite each other in the sky. However, the 2025 eclipses will happen in either Pisces or Virgo. And as the moon and eclipses are a major influence on astrology and our cosmic energies, this shift in the signs will have a new, different effect on your life.

Here, with the help of an expert astrologer, we’re unpacking what the 2025 eclipse season means for you astrologically.

What Is The Eclipse Season?

Astronomically, eclipse seasons occur every six months and happen when the transits of the sun, moon and Earth align. These seasons typically last around 35 days, and eclipses generally occur in pairs, comprising both a lunar and a solar eclipse.  Astrologer Kristy Gray explains that the lunar eclipse is also a full moon, while the solar eclipse is a new moon. These two eclipse types also have different meanings in astrology. The short meaning is this:

  • Lunar eclipse = endings
  • Solar eclipse = beginnings.

In eclipse season, the solar and lunar eclipses tend to occur roughly two weeks apart. With the lunar eclipse coming first, it will bring themes of things ending in your life, while the solar eclipse will spell new beginnings.

What Is The Astrological Meaning Of The 2025 Eclipse Season

Aries-Libra Eclipses: 2023 to 2025

This eclipse season carried themes of Aries and Libra, combined with the area of your chart they occupy.

“It was about reaching crunch time in this story that has been happening in the Aries/Libra part of your chart,” astrologer Emma Vidgen says of the 2024 eclipses, which end with the solar eclipse in Libra on October 2nd.

“Whatever you were trying to work out or learn around tendencies to make decisions based on what other people expect of you – trying to be all things to all people, playing the peacemaker – all of those things are nice, but when you do them to the point of where you’re not looking after your own needs, they can become quite toxic. That was a big theme of this eclipse season.”

Kristy echoes this, confirming that the themes of the Libra-Aries axis encouraged us to identify what we need in relationships and determine who we need to surround ourselves with to achieve a greater sense of fulfilment.

“We were focusing on the delicate balance between independence and connection. That meant we needed to assess relationships that leant towards co-dependency and explore ways to foster healthier connections. If we found ourselves leaning towards anxious-avoidant connections or extreme independence, we needed to learn how to let people in and trust ourselves enough to ask for help. This process may have involved letting some people go in our lives to make room for new and more aligned connections. For others, it may have meant growing within existing partnerships to ensure they remain healthy.”

Pisces-Virgo Eclipses: 2024-2027

Get your journals ready, because some themes that emerge in September 2024 could very well persist well into 2027. And this theme is: emotions. Pisces is a water sign ruled by Jupiter. It’s sensitive, creative, and potentially deeply felt. “The first [eclipse] of the 2025 cycle was a preview of what the next 18 months will be about,” Emma explains. “And that highlighted relationships, especially for people with Virgo or Pisces rising.”

You could find relationships falling away, as break-ups abound, as the cosmos pushes you towards something (or someone?) new. Others may find themselves directly in the path of someone new, being forced to delve deeper into their vulnerability. Fortunately, Pisces is an excellent sign for romantic abundance and commitment.

The best thing you can do is pay attention to your energy and emotions at this time, treating them with curiosity and openness. You may want to understand them if they’re to return on further Pisces and Virgo eclipse dates over the coming years.

Emma adds that this new eclipse season is going to be most noticed by those with a Virgo or Pisces rising sign, or with a mutable sign (those above, plus Gemini or Sagittarius). After the Libra-Aries eclipses, those with cardinal rising signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn) may feel a little less strained.

In short, eclipse seasons clear out what is not meant to remain in your life. You might find something falling away around the time of a lunar eclipse, and a new thing coming your way during the solar eclipse. Overall, eclipse seasons represent a significant shift in our personal and collective energies.

“’Eclipse season’ refers to the duration of time we experience the energy. This period is not limited to the two-week interval between the eclipses, as we start to feel the effects four weeks before the first eclipse and four weeks after the final one,” Kristy explains.  “This significant period represents change, growth, and transformation. The energy of eclipse season can be quite intense, as this period of time often brings about unexpected events or revelations that can lead to substantial personal shifts.”

Astrologer Emma Vidgen adds that eclipses are renowned for being a “real cosmic clean-out”. She says there’s not necessarily time for doing deep manifestations or similar ritual work, you just need to “let them do their thing”.

“They will clear out what is meant to go,” she says. “The thing to remember during eclipse season is that if things are starting to fall away, trust that they’re not meant to come with you.”
