In recent times, there have been a couple of pronunciation reveals that have thrown us for a loop – Nutella (new-tella), gif (jiff, apparently?!), but this latest one has topped the rest.
According to Refinery29, who are currently in A Coruña, Spanish retailer Zara is not pronounced Zah-ruh at all.
“How the hell DO you pronounce Zara correctly, anyway? Luckily, one of the retailer’s communications reps was kind enough to set the record straight for us,” Refinery29 asks.
“If you want to phonetic about it, it’s pronounced ‘dzah-dah’,” the report reads.

‘Dzah-dah’?
Apparently the region that Zara is based out of – Artexio, Spain, for those curious – speak Northern Castilian which replaces ‘z’ sounds with ‘th’ sounds, and ‘r’s with ‘d’s making ‘Zara’, ‘dzah-dah’.
So there you have it. Will you be making the switch?
