Australian singer The Kid Laroi and Canadian musician Tate McRae might just be music’s biggest It-couple at the moment. And they’re refreshingly loud about their love. This was certainly the case in June, when The Kid Laroi sat down with ELLE for an interview. When asked who inspires him most in the music industry, he was quick to say, “definitely my girlfriend”, and when the interviewer asked him if there’s anything she does that makes him melt, he answered in the sweetest, most poetic way. “That’s easy,” Laroi said. “Every time she smiles, it makes me weak.”
The pair have been connected since last January, and we’ve been keeping tabs on their romance since rumours started swirling. They “hard launched” in April 2024, with Laroi confirming the relationship with his fans at a concert in Ireland. Since then, the couple have been spotted cuddling up at the MTV VMAs and performing together on stage.
They even synced up their world tours to ensure they were in Australia at the same time, with Laroi also performing at the NRL grand final and McRae has delighted fans spilling the tea on her blossoming relationship with her Australian boyfriend.
During the New York leg of McCrae’s tour she called upon Laroi (born Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard) to perform a duet of his song Without You at Maddison Square Garden. “He’s performed on the biggest stages and, with the craziest people, and he walks on my stage, and he literally looked like he wanted to cry,” she told KIIS Network’s Will and Woody. Laroi separately shared that the performance was the most nervous he’s ever been on stage. “[It was] like one of the most nervous times I’ve ever been on stage, like I don’t want to f**k this up,” he told Will and Woody.
While in Australia, Kid Laroi will also be giving a keynote address at the second edition of South by Southwest (SXSW) Sydney. Blak Out and Triple J Unearthed will present the session, featuring up-and-coming Indigenous artists. Kid Laroi grew up in Redfern and has Kamilaroi roots on his mother’s side. In 2021 he became the first Indigenous Australian artist to top the Billboard 200 charts with his 2020-release mixtape F*ck Love debuted at No.1.

2024 kicked off with a bang, when McRae posted an unassuming selfie to Instagram. However internet sleuths were quick to point out that the shirt draped over the singer’s shoulders looked suspiciously like one belonging to Laroi. He did nothing to quell these theories, commenting a “?” emoji on the photo.
The same day, a video of the duo dancing in Mexico began circulating, further fanning the flames of a burgeoning romance.
January 16, 2024: The First Sighting
Fast forward two weeks and the cute couple were spotted grabbing dinner at Giorgio Baldi in Los Angeles. In photos obtained by People, McRae looked chic in satin Adidas pants, a black blazer, and Louis Vuitton pochette, while Laroi cut a casual figure in ripped jeans, a red sweater, and grey beanie.
February 16, 2024: Tate McRae & The Kid Laroi Spotted Holding Hands
While neither singer has confirmed a romance, fans were convinced that their relationship is real when McRae and Laroi were spotted at a Super Bowl party hand in hand.
Paparazzi caught the pair leaving Michael Rubin’s Fanatics party, furthering theories that the two are Hollywood’s newest item.
April 2024: Tate McRae & The Kid Laroi Hard Launch
We have a hard-launch… and apparently so does The Kid Laroi! The singer took to the stage for a concert in Dublin, and referred to his “girlfriend” being in the audience. Thankfully, and eager-eyed fan managed to catch the whole thing, and even panned the camera to Tate, watching on from the side of the stage.
August 22, 2024: Tate McRae & The Kid Laroi Perform Together
Tate McRae surprised fans at her Think Later World Tour Madison Square Garden show when she brought out The Kid Laroi as a special guest.
The couple performed Laroi’s song ‘Without You‘ before ending the duet with a sweet goodbye message. “I’m so proud of you, and you have so many people in here that love you. I’m one of them,” he told her onstage after they finished the song and shared a parting kiss.

February 10, 2025: Tate McRae Speaks About Working With The Kid Laroi On Her New Album, So Close to What
When Tate McRae released her third album, So Close to What, she also hosted a listening party with fans and treated the audience to an interview where she spoke about creating the album. The Kid Laroi featured on the ninth song of the album, “I Know Love” and she was asked about the process of collaborating.
“It was a really funny process, because me and Laroi have never really, like, taken each other seriously,” McRae said, according to Billboard. “You know when you’re in a relationship and you sing around each other, but you don’t really, like, sing? So it was a little stressful being in the studio singing and writing in front of him, but it was a cool experience to watch him in his process.”
She later elaborated on this when speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, explaining that they’d never really sung in front of one another before, and like all fresh relationships, they were nervous to show one another that side of themselves.
“It’s like a mental thing where I just feel like he’s never heard me sing, and I like to pretend that he doesn’t know I’m a singer, but he does obviously know I’m a singer,” she told Lowe. “Doing the soundcheck is so nervous, and same with writing in the studio. We were just like, ‘Are you going to listen?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah.’ But it was funny. It was was wholesome. It was cute, but it was definitely nerve-wracking for both of us who are usually so in our element and so controlling in the rooms. We both were like, ‘Okay, who’s going to lead the room?’… We just try to not talk about work as much as possible, but it is hard when the conversation always leads back there.”

In an interview with ELLE in June, while promoting his upcoming new music, Laroi praised girlfriend Tate McRae and be warned, it is extremely sweet. When posed with the question of which woman in music has imparted wisdom on him, he answered, “definitely my girlfriend”, adding that she is the hardest working artist he’s ever met in his life.
“And I don’t say that because she’s my girlfriend. Seeing how hard she works inspires and encourages me to follow along and do the same. There’s something really, really motivating about that—and really attractive as well,” he said.
In the interview, he didn’t shy away from speaking about her, and when asked if there is something McRae does that makes him melt, he responded: “Every time she smiles, it makes me weak”.

Previous to her rumoured romance with Laroi, McRae dated ice hockey player Cole Sillinger. Their relationship blossomed in 2021 after Sillinger called her his celebrity crush, however they appeared to call things quits in early 2023, when McRae removed all evidence of Sillinger from her Instagram.
