If you spent your weekend binge-watching Lena Dunham‘s new romantic comedy series Too Much, you’re probably already wondering whether the show will get a second season. The simple truth is that we don’t know yet, but that’s no reason to lose hope.
Netflix officially refers to Too Much as a miniseries, who suggests that it’s a one-and-done series that won’t be returning for a second round. And since the final episode wrapped up with a courthouse wedding between Jess (played by Megan Stalter) and Felix (played by Will Sparpe), you could safely assume that there’s not much more to say about their love story. Alas, Dunham thinks otherwise, and has said she’d love to do a second season.
Of course, Dunham’s willingness to do another season may not mean there’s one on the way. Though critics are giving the show some tough reviews, anecdotally, my friends and group chats are loving it. So, as far as I’m concerned, a follow up season would be very much welcomed.
Will There Be A Season 2 Of Too Much?
Following the show’s release, Dunham told The Wrap she “would love to do another season and sort of shift it away from ‘meet cute’ and into ‘marriage story’”.
“Marriage is not the end of a love story,” Dunham continued. “In many ways, it’s the beginning, and a marriage is an incredibly complicated negotiation.” At this stage, a second season has not been greenlit by Netflix, but we remain optimistic. And so is Dunham, according to Variety. She did also note that she tried to “stick the landing” with the finale season one because “we don’t always have control in the television industry of what our ending looks like”.
She also told Netflix’s Tudum that she wanted to finale to leave the audience with “lingering questions” in order to keep the door open for a second season. “I wanted the finale to leave us inspired, but also going, ‘They haven’t known each other that long,’” she said. “It’s that dual feeling of totally embracing it and also wondering, ‘Are they going to be divorced in three months?’”
I guess time will tell.
