- She announced the news on a teaser video for an upcoming episode on Travis Kelce’s podcast
- Taylor Swift’s episode of New Heights podcast drops on Thursday 14 August, at 9 a.m. AEST
Taylor Swift has officially confirmed her next era. Today, the singer revealed the title of her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, through a highly coordinated drop across her social channels and official website.
The announcement landed at exactly 12:12 a.m. ET, which conveniently was 2:12 p.m. AEST, meaning we all gleefully paused our work days to settle in for the news. Accompanied by a blurred version of the album artwork and pre-order links, Taylor swift announced the news in a collaborative Instagram post with her boyfriend Travis Kelce‘s podcast New Heights. He hosts the sports podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, who as always, was on hand to deliver enthusiastic support.
Just a couple of hours before the announcement, it was revealed that Swift would make her debut appearance on New Heights, in an episode that is set to go live on Wednesday, 13 August at 7 p.m. ET (that’s Thursday 14 August, at 9 a.m. AEST), on all the platforms you usually listen to your podcasts. The brothers also upload their podcasts as video episodes on YouTube, in case you prefer to read all the facial expressions and read into her outfit more thoroughly.
Ahead of the album announcement, hints had been rolling in for days. On August 11, Taylor Nation posted a carousel of 12 images of Swift wearing varying shades of orange with the caption, “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’”. Hours later, New Heights teased a “VERY special guest” in an Instagram post featuring the Kelce brothers standing alongside a silhouetted figure against a glittering orange backdrop. Fans, of course, needed no further confirmation.
A short teaser from the podcast showed Swift and Travis exchanging playful remarks where she complimented the colour of his blue hoodie, which he replied to with a sweet, “It’s the colour of your eyes, sweetie”. The video finished with Swift saying they were about to “do a fucking podcast”. Even the clip length, a precise 13 seconds, was an Easter egg for those fluent in Swift’s number lore.
Between the countdowns, colour-coded visuals and perfectly timed release, the announcement has been everything Taylor Swift is known for: strategic and break-the-internet level hype. With The Life of a Showgirl now on on its way, all eyes are on Wednesday’s episode for the next piece of the puzzle.
