Finally, the Netflix gods have gifted us with the first trailer for Emily In Paris season five, and already, speculation over Emily Cooper’s (played by Lily Collins) love life is rife. The trailer opens with a voice over that almost sounds like it’s telling a story from a book: “We start on a beautiful woman… she’s joined by a man,” it says. “Unable to keep their hands off each other, eventually sharing a kiss.”
That’s right, this season appears to kick off with Emily loved up and having fun with her Italian lover, Marcello. Set in Rome, the backdrop is all cobblestoned streets and clay-toned sheets. It appears that Emily is throwing herself into her new life in Rome, heart first.
What ensues is a montage of fabulous parties, face masks, glamorous gowns, and shenanigans with Mindy (played by Ashley Park), as Emily adjusts to Rome with seemingly little effort (not that we’d expect anything less). And best of all, the season will be dropping pretty soon, on December 18.
Which means, we’ll have new episodes just in time for those hot days where we want to hibernate inside (or recover from all the holiday parties, which Emily Cooper would definitely endorse).
In interviews Creator Darren Star has described this season as a “tale of two cities”, with Paris and Rome both still in play, but now with Emily in charge of the Rome branch of her agency, Agence Grateau.
But her move to Rome isn’t the only big change we’ll see in season five, with Camille Razat, who has played Camille since the show’s debut in 2020, confirmed earlier this year that she won’t be returning for the fifth season of the hit series. Gabriel was also notably absent in the trailer, but we assume he’ll pop back up at some point since we have seen some behind the scenes photos from the set. And anyway, the spanner won’t throw itself into Emily’s latest romance.
